PARTNERSHIPS

FWMA works in partnership with:

  • Wakulla High School and Sopchoppy Educational Center in cage building projects through the Learn and Serve program.
  • The T.O.P.S. program through Wakulla High School giving special education students the opportunity to get work experience.
  • Juvenile Justice gives young people a healthy environment to perform and complete community service hours.
  • Wakulla High School and TCC giving students the opportunity to perform and complete community service hours required for the "Scholarship Program."
  • Mrs. Chansey’s "Environmental Science Group" from Wakulla High School where students can earn extra credit for work hours.
  • Wakulla County Senior Citizens Center where the elderly help us with projects such as folding newspapers. Scroll to the bottom to see photos of our terrific volunteers.
  • "Project Learning Tree" environmental programs given at Shadeville Elementary where we bring the animals to school for our youngest citizens.

In addition FWMA works closely with:

  • Wakulla County Animal Control in the rescue of sick, injured, orphaned and nuisance wildlife of which we cared for over 1,000 in 2007.
  • Wakulla Sheriff's Department in responding to numerous calls on animals hit by cars or causing a nuisance for Wakulla County residents.
  • Wakulla County Health Department in responding to viral outbreaks. During the West Nile outbreak in 2001, we picked up large numbers of crows and blue jays and helped in the care, transport and testing of these animals. In 2003, we had a distemper outbreak that brought in over 150 foxes and raccoons infected with the virus. Animal Control, FWMA and the Health Department worked hand-in-hand (as we did with West Nile) to ensure these animals were picked up, treated, and tested or humanely euthanized.
  • Civic groups such as 4H, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Audubon who have performed workdays or have had educational programs presented to them.
  • ROTC in doing workdays and helping with the clean up of the house fire debris. They handled the cement bags and moved the rubble out of the way. They also helped with the trenching for the water pipe needed to bring water to the trailer. Cleaning cages and other maintenance activities were assisted by this helpful group.
